Blogging in Maths

Writing a blog is often just associated with the literacy programme in schools. It is used as a way for children to publish their writing. What is often looked past is the value of using blogs in other curriculum areas. Maths is one area in which blogging is a valuable tool. There are many ways in which it can be used. One of which is to talk/share information and knowledge gained during a current maths topic. It can provide opportunities for children to share strategies and learn from one another. Children can express the journey they take when learning knew concepts and reflect on their triumphs and troubles.
Maths investigations are an ideal opportunity to use blogs. Children can record their journey, set up links to appropriate sites and feeds which are relevant to the assignment. Acknowlegements can be made to those who contribute and links to other classmembers sites can connect similar ideas and findings.
