Blogging in other curriculum areas

As in my previous entry i talked about using blogs in other curriculum areas rather than just the english curriculum.
Through more research and reading many others blogs, it has become clear that there are no limits to blogging in the classroom and the learning experiences it can enhance.

The self publishing power that blogs provide gives students more authentic reasons for authentic writing.

Blogs can be used during science investigations and experiments to record findings and share solutions with others. Questions can be posed by the teacher or other individuals to extend the learning of the students. Blogs can also be used to reflect at the end of an experience and teachers can use the information from the blogs to assess students learning.

Similarly with social sciences and health and physical eduction curriculum areas blogging can be used for interactive learning.

Portfolios are common in schools to provide parents/caregivers with a journal of children's work. How authentic these are can be questioned. Generally there is a mad rush before they are due home to do the work that is required.

E-portfolios and blogs can be a space where parents/caregivers can view their childrens work on a regular basis and make valuable comments. Using these tools provides a more up to date and authentic picture of their childrens current learning.

There are many other tools alongside blogging that can be used to enhance the learning of students in the classroom;

Wikis, Podcasts, RSS, Social bookmarking, Online photo galleries
